1942 Hawker Hurricane ~ AM274
1942 Hawker Hurricane AM274.jpg

This project was a 9-year, 9,000 hour restoration which began when John purchased the wreckage of three Canadian built Hawker Hurricanes that had been shot down during World War II.

The wreckage was owned by Ed Zalesky of White Rock, British Columbia, Canada and available to inspect in three shipping containers located at the airport in the tiny Pacific Northwest border town of Blaine, Washington.

After crawling through the three containers in late May 2003, John decided to purchase the wreckage and move all the pieces to his newly purchased property in Burlington, Washington.  This began the process of turning an old barn on the property into a workshop / hangar / museum space, at the same time that John was working his way through the wreckage to separate the usable / restorable parts from those that might be useful as patterns to make new parts from, and those that were simply too destroyed to do anything with!
